1. TRUTH OR DARE

sleepover games truth or dare

Of course, Truth or Dare is an absolute classic game you simply HAVE TO play at any slumber party. Likely, everyone in the group has played this game before. But even if you haven’t, don’t worry; the premise is super simple. Everyone takes turns picking an option between truth or dare. If they pick truth, they must answer a question posed by the entire group. If they pick dare, they must complete a dare!

2. MOVIE MARATHON

sleepover games movie

There’s nothing better than a Movie Marathon when at a sleepover. Pick a theme or a series of movies, and start from the beginning. Don’t forget to stock up on snacks and food beforehand, as you will want to be munching on food as you watch movie after movie! If you’re not sure what to watch, here are some of our Movie Marathon favorites:

  • Twilight
  • Harry Potter
  • Lord of the Rings
  • To All the Boys
  • 2000s chick flicks (think: Mean Girls, What a Girl Wants, Wild Child, Miss Congeniality)
  • Disney animated films

3. COOK OR BAKE OFF

sleepover games cook or bake

Do you and your friends like to cook or bake? Then, what better game to play at a sleepover than a Cook or Bake Off? Depending on your preferences, you can either cook dinner together or supply a steady collection of sweets for the sleepover. Since it can get crowded in the kitchen during the Cook or Bake Off, make sure to time everything perfectly so no one is waiting for the oven or stove. Then, once all the food is ready, vote on the best dish!

4. WOULD YOU RATHER

sleepover games WOULD YOU RATHER OVERVIEW

One of the best games to play at a sleepover is Would You Rather. In this very simple game, players go around in a circle, asking a question that asks other players to choose between two options. Would You Rather examples include:

  • Would you rather eat chocolate or an apple?
  • Would you rather tell your crush you like them or go skydiving?
  • Would you rather face your worst fear for 1 hour or be in prison for 1 week?

The possibilities are endless! Check out more Would You Rather examples here! As each player chooses an option, feel free to explain the reasoning behind what you choose – it can lead to some pretty intense and fun discussions!

5. NEVER HAVE I EVER

Never have i ever

Never Have I Ever is a classic game for a reason – and a perfect game to play at a sleepover. While this is generally a drinking game, if you are underage, it’s incredibly easy to adapt this to your needs as well.

To play Never Have I Ever, everyone starts with all 10 fingers up. Then, players take turns saying something they have never done. If someone in the group, however, has done the thing mentioned, they must announce it and put a finger down. If they are the only person who puts down a finger, it’s time for a storytime (if they feel comfortable to share, of course)! This is a super fun way to get to know your friends on a deeper level.

6. FLASHLIGHT TAG

werewolf or flashlight tag

You’ve likely played tag before, but put a fun twist on this childhood classic game and play Flashlight Tag. As you might imagine, this game is best played at night in the dark. Whether you play indoors or outdoors is up to you.

To play, one person is “it.” And they must use the flashlight to tag other players!

7. SPIN THE NAIL POLISH

sleepover games - spin the nail polish

You may have heard of the game Spin the Bottle, but if you’re with your friends at a sleepover, Spin the Nail Polish may be a more appropriate game! Lay down different nail polish colors in a circle and place a bottle in the middle. Then, take turns spinning the bottle. Whatever color the top of the bottle points at when it stops is the color you must paint your nails! This game is a great way to combine a little makeover session with a fun game.

8. BALLOON STOMP

sleepover games - balloon stomp

If you’re after a super fun and simple sleepover game and don’t mind a bit of a clean-up afterward, Balloon Stomp is a great choice. To start, fill up the balloons with some confetti and blow them up. All players must then take their balloons and stand in a circle. The goal of the game is to stomp on other players’ balloons while preventing yours from popping! The last player to still have a balloon wins and is exempt from cleaning up the scraps.

9. BLINDFOLDED MAKEUP

Whether you are having a sleepover at your house or outdoors, like a camping trip, a favorite pastime for many is a Scavenger Hunt. This game will get everyone on their feet, running around, trying to complete the hunt before anyone else. This game will require some prep but is relatively easy to prepare.

Simply give each player or team a list of items to scavenge that they’ll need to tick off or bring back in a bag for proof. These can include:

  • A pinecone
  • Something red
  • Turn a piece of paper into a paper plane

The first person or team to complete the Scavenger Hunt wins!

13. WHO AM I?

Once everyone has a person on their forehead, the game is ready to begin!

Players take turns asking a yes or no question regarding the person on their forehead. The first player to guess their person correctly wins!

14. KARAOKE

While not necessarily a game, Karaoke is one of the best activities for a sleepover. You don’t even need a proper Karaoke set-up, although it’s perfect if you do! If you don’t have a mic or sound system, just grab a hairbrush and turn on some YouTube Karaoke videos. Take turns performing or perform all together!

Probably one of the most popular board games of all time is Monopoly. This is also a great game to play at a sleepover. Players take turns moving their tokens on the Monopoly board according to the number they roll on the dice. Depending on where their token lands, players may buy property, pay rent, pay taxes, draw a Chance Card, draw a Community Chest Card, or even go to jail! The last player to remain standing (as other players go bankrupt) wins the game! Check out our game rules for Monopoly for a more thorough look at the rules of the game.

16. SPOONS

how to play spoons

Looking for a super fun and fast-paced card game to play at the slumber party? You should play Spoons! To set up the game, you’re going to need one less spoon than the number of players and place them in the middle of the table. Each player begins with four cards, and the dealer puts the rest of the cards in a stack to their right.

The dealer begins the game by picking up a card from the deck and then discarding a card from their hand to their left. The player to their left then picks up the card and discards a card from their hand to their left. Continue in this manner and play as fast as possible. The goal is to get a hand of all four cards of a single value. When this happens, grab a spoon from the middle. At this point, everybody else must grab the spoons! The player who is unable to grab a spoon earns the letter S for Spoon. Whenever someone manages to spell Spoon (loses 5 rounds), a spoon and that player are removed from play.

The last player standing wins!

You’ve likely already played Uno before at a sleepover. This is a fun and simple card game most families will have in their collection. Deal each player 7 cards to start, with the rest of the cards forming a face-down draw pile. In this game, players take turns laying down a card into the discard pile, making sure to match the previous card in color or number. Watch out for the special cards that may make you draw cards from the draw pile and skip your turn!

When you whittle down the cards in your hand to just one card, you must yell, “Uno!” You’ll have to pick up a card as a penalty if you don’t. The first person to get rid of all of their cards wins.

  • Celebrate 40 years of the original classic family drawing game Pictionary!
  • Sketch and guess your way to the finish line with this board game for family...
  • Features 3 levels of clues, including Learn to Draw clues for younger players...

Pictionary is a classic board game that will test your deduction skills as well as drawing skills. While you can play this game with the actual board game, you can easily play this game as long as you have some paper, a pen, and a timer.

To play Pictionary, divide everyone into two teams. Then, a player from a team picks a card and reads the word with the color matching the space the team’s token is on. The player then has exactly 1 minute to draw what they read. Remember: you cannot use any letters or numbers! If their team correctly guesses within the minute, they can roll a dice and move their token. The first team to get to the finish square and guess the drawing correctly wins!

20. PILLOWCASE DECORATION

If you’re a crafty group of friends, a very fitting way to pass the time is to decorate some pillows! Grab some plain white pillowcases and some fabric pens. Then, everyone can spend some time decorating their own pillows!

21. PILLOW FIGHT

There’s a reason that sleepovers are often associated with Pillow Fights! So, why not organize your own? Make sure everyone has their own pillow and lay down some ground rules so no one gets hurt. Then, start throwing pillows at one another!

Even better, if you decide to decorate some pillows earlier in the night, you can use these pillowcases for the Pillow Fight!

22. PHOTOGRAPHY SCAVENGER HUNT

  • Something red
  • A funny sign
  • A reflection
  • Someone picking their nose
  • A handstand
  • A group selfie

The first team or player to provide pictures of all the scavenger items wins!

23. CRAZY EIGHTS

sleepover games - crazy eights

One of the best card games to play at a sleepover is Crazy Eights, a game very similar to Uno. This classic card game is very easy to understand and super fun to play. Start by dealing five cards to each player. The goal of the game is to get rid of all your cards by placing them in the discard pile in the center. However, in order to place a card in the discard pile, the card must be the same number or suit as the card before it. 8s are wild, hence the name of the game, so you can place them down whenever and can declare the next suit for the next player.

The player who manages to get rid of all their cards first wins the round. Then, scoring begins according to what types of cards you’ve got left in your hand. The player with the least number of points wins!

24. GO FISH

go fish sleepover games

Looking for another easy card game to play? Try Go Fish! You’ve likely played this game before, but if you need a refresher on the rules, all you need to remember is the following:

  1. The goal is to collect all four cards of the same rank.
  2. Players start with 7 cards, with the remainder of the cards forming a draw pile in the middle of the table.
  3. Players take turns asking a random player for a random card of their choice, keeping the goal in mind.
  4. If the chosen player does not have the asked card, the asking player must “go fish” by drawing a card from the middle.
  5. If the chosen player does have the asked card, they must give over all cards in that rank to the asking player.
  6. At any point, if a player collects all four cards of the same rank, they must show it to the other players and put them down.
  7. The winner is the first player to get rid of all their cards or the player who collects the most books (all four suits of a single value).

25. LIMBO

If you want to play a fun game that will get everyone up on their feet, you should play Limbo. You will have likely played this game in an outdoor setting in the past, such as a field day at school!

To play, two people will hold up a stick or a rope. Players will then take turns one by one going underneath the stick, making sure not to touch it. Remember: players must bend over backward and cannot crouch forward. After everyone goes throw, lower the stick. Keep lowering after each round, with players slowly getting eliminated if they are unable to go underneath the stick without touching it. Don’t forget to play some fun music!

26. FLOUR GAME

sleepover games - flour game

Play the classic Flour Game at a sleepover if you don’t mind a bit of mess. This game is best played outdoors, but try not to play it on a windy day! To play the Flour Game, shape some flour into a dome using a bowl and put a sweet on top. Everyone then takes turns slicing the flour dome with a knife. The winner of the game is the last player to slice the flour before the player who actually causes the sweet to fall!

27. SUCK IT UP

sleepover games - suck it up

Another great sleepover game that is fun for everyone involved is Suck It Up. As you might be able to guess from the name of the game, this game involves sucking things with a straw. To set up the game, you’ll need to put a number of smarties on one plate and an empty plate for each player. Then, all players line up and race to suck all the smarties with the draw and place them on the other plate. The first player to move all the smarties wins!

28. MAKE MOCKTAILS

sleepover games - make mocktails

What’s a sleepover without some fun drinks to match? Grab some non-alcoholic drinks and get ready to make some fun mocktails. While you can certainly follow a recipe for a Shirley Temple, or a Virgin Piña Colada, you can also turn it into a competition and vote on who made the best mocktail! Don’t forget to decorate the mocktails with little umbrellas or frozen fruits.

29. TALENT SHOW

sleepover games - talent show

Is a sleepover really a sleepover without a Talent Show to showcase everyone’s abilities? Make sure everyone prepares something to perform for everyone else. Then, plan the order of the performances, provide any equipment needed, and then get the show started! When you’re not performing, don’t forget to be an attentive and supportive audience for your friends!

30. LEGO-BUILDING CONTEST

sleepover games - lego

Do you have some LEGOs lying around the house? If you do, why not have a LEGO-Building Contest to test everybody’s creativity and building skills? Vote on the best one!

TIPS FOR ORGANIZING A SLUMBER PARTY

Whether it’s for a birthday celebration or just a fun night in, here are some of our top tips for organizing the best slumber party ever!

CHOOSE A THEME AND DECORATE

The best slumber parties have a theme. If you have a theme, you can decorate accordingly, and you may even end up with some guests arriving in some pretty awesome costumes! Even if you don’t have a theme, having decorations like fairy lights and cool table settings can really make the slumber party look super organized.

PLAN FUN ACTIVITIES AND GAMES

Of course, no slumber party is complete without some super fun activities and games to play throughout the night. If you properly plan what you can do, you can avoid bored moments when everybody is simply looking at their phones as there is nothing better to do. Yikes!

PROVIDE SNACKS AND MEALS

Have a variety of snacks available throughout the slumber party. Popcorn, chips, candy, and finger foods are all great choices. For a special treat, consider setting up a DIY dessert bar with ice cream, cookies, and toppings. Don’t forget to plan for breakfast the next morning as well.

Better yet, if there are cooks or bakers in the slumber party, you can organize a Cook or Bake Off!

PLAY MUSIC

Music can really set the perfect mood for your slumber party. Create a playlist in advance with a mix of upbeat songs for dancing and singing along, as well as some mellow tunes for winding down later in the evening. You can even make a playlist together with your friends beforehand!
