OVERVIEW OF GAME

Monopoly the Card Game is exactly what it sounds like, a card game version of the classic Monopoly board game! Each round, players draw from the bank pile or trade with opponents to improve their hand.  Collect property sets, railroads, utilities, houses, and hotels to have the most valuable hand at the end of the round.  The player with the most money at the end of the game wins.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX

MONOPOLY THE CARD GAME content

The sixty card Monopoly deck contains twenty-eight property cards, seventeen improvement cards, and fifteen bonus cards.  There is one bank card which holds the draw pile and money.

SETUP FOR MONOPOLY THE CARD GAME

MONOPOLY THE CARD GAME setup

Choose a banker and have that player set up the bank card.  Place the stack of monopoly Money on the designated space.  Take a $500 bill and place it under the Free Parking jackpot space. The banker will make the payouts at the end of the round.

Now choose a dealer and have them shuffle the deck before dealing ten cards to each player.  Players hold their cards in hand without letting their opponents see them.  Then, the dealer gives each player two cards face up in front of them to begin their trading pile.  The rest of the cards are placed face down on the bank card to form the draw pile.

For a two player game, deal two additional trade piles.  A three player game requires one additional trade pile.

THE PLAY

Player seated left of the dealer goes first.  Begin your turn by drawing one card from the draw pile or by trading with an opponent.  If you have a complete hand after drawing or trading, you may end the round by going out.

Deciding to draw means you end your turn by discarding one card to the top of your trading pile.  Trading is a little different.  Should you decide to trade, choose one opponent at the table and give them the top one or two cards from your trade pile.  Your opponent adds those cards to their hand.  Then, you take the same number of cards from the top of their trade pile and add them to your hand.  The player who is given the cards for the trade will have more than ten cards until the end of their next turn (when they will discard back down to ten).

End your turn by discarding back down to ten cards.  As your trade pile grows, spread the cards to form a fan.  All players should be able to see the cards and know which is on top.

Play continues clockwise around the table until a player goes out with a complete hand.  A complete hand must contain at least one Monopoly color group set.  It may not contain any unfinished sets.  In order to have railroads in your hand, you must have two, three, or four of them.  You must have both utility cards for a hand to be complete.  One, two, three, or four houses may be in hand, but you may not have more than four.  Holding exactly four houses allows you to also hold a hotel card.

The Go to Jail card means you cannot go out unless you are also holding the Get Out of Jail Free card.  And, you may hold as many bonus cards as you wish.  Wild cards count as any property, but you must announce which property they represent.

SCORING THE ROUND

Banker pays each player according to the value of their hand and begins with the person who went out.  Every token card a player has earns them an additional $1,000.  Only the player who goes out earns money for their improvement cards.

The role of dealer passes left each round.  Play four rounds for a complete game.

WINNING MONOPOLY THE CARD GAME

Whoever has the most money at the end of the fourth round wins the game.  For a longer game, play to a set amount of money.  The first to reach that amount wins.
