TYPE OF GAME: Word Drama Game
AUDIENCE: 8+
OVERVIEW OF FORTUNATELY, UNFORTUNATELY
Bring out the storyteller within you by playing the game Fortunately, Unfortunately with the other players. This is not a competitive game, but you won’t know what the other players are thinking, which may force you to rethink your whole idea. Challenge yourself to think creatively on the spot with this fun parlor game. You’ll have to be quick thinking.
GAMEPLAY
Every player must sit in a circle and determine which player will go first. The first person must then think of a starting sentence to begin the story. After the first sentence, the second person continues the story but must start their one sentence with the word “unfortunately”. Then, the next person must continue but start the sentence with the word “fortunately”. As the players tell the story, they must alternate starting their sentences with “unfortunately” or “fortunately”.
Here’s an example of how this game may go:
Player 1: The girl was very thirsty.
Player 2: Unfortunately, she had no water.
Player 3: Fortunately, there was a cup.
Player 4: Unfortunately, it was filled with mud.
Player 1: Fortunately, she found a second cup.
Player 2: Unfortunately, the cup had a hole in it.
Player 1: Fortunately she did not live far from her Grandma’s house.
END OF GAME
The story continues until a player manages to end the story or the players are ready to move on to a new story.
