OBJECTIVE OF 5000: Be the first player to get 5000 points
NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 2 – 10 players
MATERIALS: Five 6 sided dice, way to keep score
TYPE OF GAME: Dice game
AUDIENCE: Family, Adults
INTRODUCTION OF 5000
5000 is a fun and easy game to play with friends and family. It only requires five 6 sided dice, a hot roll or two, and a way to keep score.
To decide which players should go first and keep score in this fun dice game, everyone should roll one die. The player who rolls the highest number goes first, and the player who rolls the lowest number must keep score for the game.
THE PLAY
The player begins their turn by rolling all five dice. A 1, 5 or three of a kind (called counters) must be rolled in order to continue their turn. The remaining dice sides are considered garbage. A player will need to set aside at least one counter each roll. If a player successfully rolls all five dice as counters, they may pick up the dice and continue rolling. A player’s earned points continue to accumulate until they choose to end their turn. Don’t push your luck too far. If a player only rolls garbage, their turn is over immediately. All points for the round are lost, much like other dice games.
A player must earn 350 points in order to begin keeping score. Once that threshold has been passed, a player can end their turns at any time and collect the points they’ve earned.
SCORING
At the completion of a player’s turn, points are awarded for scoring dice and combinations all the points they accrue each round are added to their game total. A player cannot start accumulating points until they have scored at least 350 in one round.
1’s = 100 points each
5’s = 50 points each
Three of a kinds are worth points as well.
Three 2’s = 200 points
… 3’s = 300 points
… 4’s = 400 points
… 5’s = 500 points
… 6’s = 600 points
… 1’s = 1000 points
Rolling a 1-2-3-4-5 in a single roll on all the five dice = 1500 points. This is called The Big One.
WINNING
The player who earns 5000 or the most points wins the game. However, once a player hits 5000 or more, the other players get one more opportunity to go. If they surpass the “winning” player, they steal the victory for themselves.
